Teething

You know that I know
that you've had
to lie.
Do you remember
that

one time?
We were there
alone together, for some reason.
You had great hair.

I couldn't stand
the silence.
I remember this
because it was different
than hiding from the loud.

Anyways,
I chewed through
the banister
on the stairs that day.

Clever.
What better way
to distract from the
absence?

You told me
that it would be
satisfying
if I could chip off
all the paint.

A task oriented
operation.

And now I see why
you couldn’t tell me
why we were there
in the first place.

To cover,
we told them
a beaver had done it.
They howled
’til my ears bled.
And I wanted to
rip out
all of my teeth.

You were trying
to consider my
safety.

I have to tell you:
I became dangerous.
I chew through people
to prove they have holes.

By now,
I am tired and lonely.

I built you,
best I could.

You have stayed too long.
Please
let me be.
